We stayed in The Chapel, and it was spectacular in every sense of the word. Once an actual chapel, it has been beautifully converted into a guest room while retaining many of its original architectural elements and character. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and thoughtfully equipped with just about everything we could possibly need. Little touches made it even more special—a jar of cookies waiting for us and bottles of water placed on each side of the bed every evening.

I especially have to gloat about Lynn, the manager. What a charming, friendly, helpful, genuinely wonderful lady! She went out of her way to help us every step of the way, from arranging a car to take us to the train station to even helping us out with a wee bit of laundry. Nothing ever seemed like too much trouble, and her warmth and kindness made our stay that much more memorable.

The grounds are absolutely adorable, and the Bistro was another wonderful surprise. The food was genuinely delicious and felt like a little hidden gem in its own right.

What really sets The Cookie Jar apart is the attention to detail and exceptional hospitality. There are plenty of beautiful hotels, but it’s the people and all those thoughtful little touches that turn a stay into something you remember.

Overall, an absolutely fantastic experience. The hospitality was over-the-top wonderful, and I would return in a heartbeat.

A hotel owner clearly with an eye for the details that set establishments apart. We enjoyed a local beer and a glass of rose whilst we immersed ourselves in the peace, tranquility and luxury of the Cookie Jar. Debbie gave us some excellent sightseeing tips. Everything was perfect. Our kind of hotel without a doubt. You must dine here. The small kitchen team are amazing. The menu makes your head hurt with the delicious options of a carefully crafted selection of dishes. The monkfish , duo of lamb and the chicken palliard were very special. The service was exemolary .The breakfast was also exceptional and our lady server was a ray of morning sunshine. Underpinning every wonderful hotel is the staff and the Cookie Jar has some of the best we have met. Warm, friendly, helpful, informative, genuine, professional, thoughtful, charming are just a few words to capture our experience. Other hotels may have recently opened in Alnwick centre but the Cookie Jar is the place to stay for the discerning traveller.

The bistro serves excellent food, with a menu of fresh, seasonal food. But what really defines this lovely hotel is the experience of engaging with the team. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome and at ease. Nothing was too much trouble. Everyone took time to chat with us and offer tips on where to go and where to eat. Over the six days during which we stayed, we came to know and like all the team. It was a particular pleasure to meet Debbie, whose hotel this is and who is often present. It’s clear that this is a team which works happily together and is wonderfully well led, and that is reflected in their relationship with guests. We look forward to returning.

By the way, despite the extremely hot weather in July, we were able to stay cool using a fan which was supplied in the room. It had a setting on it which made it run continuously, so we were able to cool the room at all times.

The first thing to note is the genuinely warm welcome and engagement with all the staff in the hotel. The hotel is very stylish with a lovely coherent design theme and good quality fittings. The bedroom is a joy, large and comfortable with all you need, along with a superb bathroom, with big drench-style shower – very satisfying.
For dinner, the setting is very pleasant, looking out over the delightful garden, and food is delicious. Again the waiting staff are superb.
Breakfast is excellent and enough to see you through the day, unless you are planning some marathon exercise routine that day.
My wife & I stayed for three nights and we agreed that this place is an absolute winner. Overall, I can’t fault The Cookie Jar & would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone looking for a good hotel in this beautiful part of the country.
